the Curse of Opportunities

Many would consider the word opportunities as a positive word. Many opportunities mean there are many possibilities to succeed. Nowadays, we might do a lot of things that would be considered impossible by the previous generation. We could apply for jobs relatively easier through many job search websites, we could attend college classes online with less time consuming than the offline classes, we could learn a new set of skills, and many more. Thus, it would be so embarrassing if one still appears to be unsuccessful since there are many possibilities and chances for us to excel ourselves ahead.

But why do we find ourselves still struggling in this time where the amount of opportunity in front of us is abundantly massive? What hinders us from being successful already?

All these questions have led me to think that maybe many opportunities do not always mean there are many chances to succeed. But of course, it is much better compared to no chance at all. However, we have to consider to what extent all these opportunities could lead us to succeed and when they might possibly destroy us.

After doing some research on the internet, I have found a very interesting theory about how we humans are dealing with choices. We react differently when we are facing a small number of choices compared to when we are facing a lot of choices. It is called analysis paralysis. You see, before we decide to choose something, we are always doing analysis whether we realize it or not. We tend to think that all the choices that we made are conscious choices. often we forget that we can’t even fully control who our body works. for instance, we can not control the beat of our heart, we can not control our digestive system, and so on. This also could happen in our mind. This analytical process might take longer when there are many things which we want to process, sometimes we even process something we needn’t at the time. this process keeps happening while we are doing an important task which probably has to be done by now. Most of the questions are trivial as if What lunch do we want to take? using gofood or gojek? what voucher should I use? and so on.

But where comes the possibility itself?

Because someone gave it. Someone has given that possibility to us.

How to make a decision?

Do we have to make the decision for everything?

limiting ourselves is might be what we need.

(unfinished yet, but I want to publish it who cares xD)
